Perebory – Views
The exhibition “Perebory – Views”, presented at the Museum of Southern Podlasie in Biała Podlaska from October 18, 2024, to August 31, 2025, showcases the traditional perebor weaving ornament inscribed on Poland’s National List of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The exhibition was curated by Agnieszka Mikszta, with the exhibition design created by the Architektura Wrażliwa studio. The exposition combines historical documentation and archival textile collections with modern artistic interpretations by Monika Trypuz, showing how this unique craftsmanship functions in the contemporary world.
View I: Stanisława Kowalewska – Work and Handcraft
The first part of the exhibition shows the continuity of craft transmission. It presents a recording of the work and handicraft of Stanisława Kowalewska—a master weaver who taught Monika Trypuz how to weave. This meeting of generations demonstrates how traditional knowledge becomes the foundation for further creative explorations.
View II: Ethnography
The second part of the exhibition introduces visitors to the world of ethnography, presenting the origins, history, and unique character of the Bug River weaving ornament. The exposition showcases the roots of perebors in the context of the region’s folk culture, providing a solid knowledge base about this exceptional heritage.
View III: Modzelewska’s Collection and Moda Polska Brand
Third part juxtaposes the historical collection of Jadwiga Modzelewska with designs from the Moda Polska brand inspired by perebory. This section demonstrates how ancient folk motifs and patterns were reflected in Polish fashion design of the last century.
IV View: Project Atencja. Monika Trypuzz
Fourth View presents the original “Project Atencja” by Monika Trypuz. In her art, she draws inspiration from perebory, translating it in a modern way. This is precisely why she was invited to participate in this project, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic interpretations.
