Perebor Weaves and Embroidery

The Zadushki collection is shrouded in the mystical atmosphere connected to the old Slavic tradition known as Dziady. It was believed that in November, on All Souls’ Day, the ghosts of the dead lined up in a procession and left cemeteries to visit their family houses. An important element of this tradition was lighting bonfires on crossroads so that the traveling souls would not get lost. The mysterious atmosphere of those days was an inspiration for the Zadushki collection: decorative elements hidden behind plackets and box plates become visible and reveal their beauty with the natural movement of the garments on the body. A visual inspiration for creating the collection came from two sources: the famous play by the Polish poet Adam Mickewicz “Dziady” [Forefather’s Eve], and the Estonian movie “November,” directed by Rainer Sarnet.
